Start practicing your paper airplane making skills. The Paper Airplane Contest helps kick off the festival the weekend before the main events.
Purchase as many papers as you'd like, make as many planes as you can, and try to get them in a box to collect the prize contained in the box. 
In the weeks before the festival, a special piece of paper will be given to every Mt. Eccles Elementary Student, courtesy of Club 49 - Alaska Airlines.

The Survival Suit races take place on Saturday morning before the parade. Teams of 4 of all ages can register below to don their survival suits and races across the harbor to the raft. Practice takes place at the Bob Korn Memorial Pool the week of.  Miss Iceworm and her court judge the races based on speed and style points! Put on a little show for the crowd and you could take home a ribbon.

A highlight of the festival, the parade captures the creativity and resilience of local residents.The newly anointed Citizen of the Year leads as the Grand Marshall, and Miss Iceworm and her court ride the fire truck, among other floats showcasing the years theme. Here we announce the winner of the Treasure Chest!

While most people in the lower 48 enjoy their fireworks on the 4th of July, or even on New Year’s Eve, Cordova does it up big for Iceworm and Iceworm alone. 
Lantis Fireworks puts on an incredible show for us each year on the last day of the festival. It is the best grand finale, and the only firework show Cordova has!
